meeting Feb 11th at the Plume – GPS/gadget demos + film show
Bring along any new gizmos for a
general discussion on flying related kit and GPS units. Also we’re planning to
show an extreme flying DVD.
The club will be having it’s AGM in
March (date t.b.a.) to vote in a new Chairman and
committee, so volunteers please form an orderly queue at the bar on the night.
Parachute Repack – February
We are still planning a club chute repacking session
in February, date/time/venue TBA, and a PG ground-handling clinic in
conjunction with Robin at AIRTOPIA.

It was raised at
the last committee meeting that perhaps we should enter the British Club
Championship (www.ukbcc.co.uk). We could enter both PG and HG teams but to
get some idea of the numbers if you are interested can you let me know ASAP via
the mailing list, here on the bulletin board or direct to myself so I can get
some names together? If we get
sufficient interest then we’ll sort out the teams (max. of six per team) and
send off the application fees.
I know nothing
about this competition except what’s on the website so if you have entered
before or have any other experience then please share it with the rest of us.
From the website
it seems that the only info specific for 2004 are the dates (I think the teams
are those from 2003):
Preliminary rounds to be completed by:
Semis to be held on the weekend beginning: 26th
June2004
Finals to be held on the weekend beginning:
I don’t consider
this to be a very serious attempt at winning unless people want to but it would
be good to get the Malvern club recognised and have a
bit of fun doing it. You don’t have to
be pilot rated (as I understand it), just a full club member and be ‘competent
to safely attempt cross-country’ (so that counts me out).
Come on, sign-up!
Cheers,
Chris

Details are on
the club Bulletin Board, website homepage and have been posted to the mailing
list (see below…)
Most of you are
probably already aware of this and have hopefully signed-up but for the
uninitiated (or those who may have unsubscribed some time ago) here are some
details of a useful service for club members.
A mailing list
for the Malvern Hang Gliding Club has been set-up. The hope is that by having a single email
address for all members it will be easier to keep in touch and make sure
everyone gets important announcements.
The way it works
is this…
You compose an
email in the normal way and address it to members@malvern-hang.org.uk. All members who have subscribed (including yourself) will receive the message. The email will have the 'sender' set to your
email address so others can tell who sent it.
Replying to the
emails from the list will use the mailing list address (not that of the sender)
so that everyone sees your reply. If you want to reply to just the sender you
will have to manually enter their address.
Please use the
list for whatever you want! For instance
if you are thinking of going flying, want to see if anyone else wants to go out
or have some useful weather predictions!
Don't think of this as a replacement for other lists (such as Europg) but a way or targeting club members.
Attachments (pics, etc.) can be sent but keep them small to avoid
clogging-up subscribers' inboxes. Even
better, stick them on a website and put a link to it in the email. You can even send the pics
to me and I'll stick them on the club website for you!
At present the
mailing list is being run on a dial-up basis during the day (currently
approximately every 45 mins) so emails may take a
while to get propagated. If the list gets
used and proves to be useful then I will look at getting it hosted 24 hours a
day and without this delay.
If you have any
problems, questions or suggestions then email me at
webmaster@malvern-hang.org.uk.
So are you
interested? If so then sign-up! All you have to do is send an email to
members@malvern-hang.org.uk with the subject set to 'SUBSCRIBE'.
Only subscribed
members can send emails to the list. If
you change your email then you need to unsubscribe using your old email address
(just send an email to members@malvern-hang.org.uk with the subject set to
'UNSUBSCRIBE'), then subscribe using your new email.
If you have
problems just email me at webmaster@malvern-hang.org.uk.
Have fun!
Chris
Go 4 it '04
The club Go4it tables will be running
again this year, and to encourage you all to bang in those XCs we're having a
cash prize for the top newcomer to XC flying in the club, to be decided by the
committee. Once again you can guarantee your place on the short-list for this
prize right now by sending me a cheque.
So the rules are the same as last year
i.e. I win it as I'll be compiling the PG table, and Derek will be compiling
the HG table with his flights.
Happy flying!

out already ? (Sun 25th)
Had a great day up and down the river severn on Sunday (Paramotor)
Managed an engine off sustained flight and height gain of 320 feet for 7
minutes. I thought is was pretty good for this time of
year especially considering rather poor sink rate (drag + weight). Ok this was
above a large Factory on the outskirts of Stourport,
but this would be a fair indicator for good flights over Abergaveny
from the Blorenge ?

Sunday Jan 18th
Thank you Nick for getting me out of my sick bed and forcing me to go to The
Shrine. Great turn out of pilots. Rhossili must have
been flattered, and decided to give us great flying for both PG and HG.
Nick,Alan, Craig,Derek,Richard,Mick,Jonno,Graham,John, and many others
had a good day.
Nick,Alan and John ended the
day by soaring the west end of Llanmadoc Hill and
landing at Tankeylake Moor, just east of Llangenith. If you land there, please do not park the
retrieve vehicle on the common (park just alongside of the road).
John.

19 jan 2004 Rhossili
After a bright but totally nil wind start, Rhossili yet again served up the perfect winters afternoon.Light WSW to start with for half an hour for the paragliders and then surprisingly the wind actually veered
to dead west and blew 15 to 18 not so good for the floppies but the rest of us
had 8-900 above the pimple and eventually flew to Lanmadoc,
soared for 20 minutes and then landed in the perfect field at the side. Where
were you Frank?

Jan 2nd.
Back at Poppit, No wind at all, yet 12 mph N/NE was
forecast.
Went to the Preseli's, where we saw a PG do a TTB
from the north take off. It is a long walk for a Stiffie
carry (although there is a perfect track for 4WD(needs
negotiating)). Modern high performance stiffie may be
able to get off from the shallow slope and fly on to the main hill.
The South and Easterly bowl looks great as well.
SO YOU SEE FROM THE ABOVE I DID NOT FLY!!!! BUT THERE ARE SOME GREAT SITES DOWN
HERE WITH NO ONE TO FLY THEM!!!!!!!!
Happy New Year,
John.
Fri 2nd Jan
Went to Rhigos as a) never been there to fly, b)
forecast was for moderating N (good direction) and c) Dave J-H wanted to go. Arrived to find 20-25 on top. Decided to wait a while but
suddenly dropped to nothing! Eventually binned it and headed to Blaenavon (via Pontlottyn to do a
nice tour of
